Do you need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Denmark? No.

Do you need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Denmark? No.
Skip the GP visit, book your own time, and take a full hour if you want it — starting today, not eventually.
A referral doesn’t buy you access to physiotherapy — it buys a lower price, in exchange for a GP appointment, the wait to get one, and someone else choosing your time slot. Direct access skips all of that: you book when it suits you, for as long as you want, and start today.
Two ways in
Direct access (self-referral)
No GP visit, no waiting for an appointment slot. 650 kr. per session — and you’re free to book that as a full hour, not just 30 minutes. Book directly here.
With a referral from your GP
A “henvisning til fysioterapi” doesn’t get you in any faster — it lowers the price of a 30-minute session. It costs a GP appointment and its wait, not extra kroner.
So what’s a referral actually for?
Purely price, not access, and not length either. A referral session is 30 minutes: the region pays part of the nationally set treatment value directly to the clinic, and you pay the lower amount that’s left — the “patient price”. Without a referral, you pay our self-pay price instead: 650 kr. per session, and you’re free to book that as a full hour. Either way, the treatment itself is the same. See the exact numbers in our pricing explainer, linked below.
Is insurance required?
No — you’re welcome to simply pay for your own sessions. If you do have insurance, we work with all providers and settle directly with most of them: just send your payment guarantee to info@fysio360.dk and let us know who you’ve booked with, and we’ll handle the rest. Either way, insurance is never a requirement to be seen.
Why this matters if you’re new here
You don’t need to spend your first weeks in Denmark solving its healthcare system just to treat a sore shoulder or a stiff back. If something hurts today, you can book a session today, on your own schedule, and sort out referrals or insurance afterwards if it’s worth it to you. Our team is used to explaining everything in English at your first visit.
